How Can I Stay Faithful?
Five Principles for Staying Faithful in Living for Christ, His Church, and His Mission:

  1. Discipline yourself to give (for the sake of the Church and Her mission)

  2. Invest your life into people

  3. Don’t give up living for Jesus

  4. Submit to and respect servant-leaders

  5. Treasure Christian friendships

Resurrection: This Changes Everything

1 Corinthians 15:12-34

  1. If Jesus didn’t rise then all is lost… (vv. 12-19)

    1. Faith in Christ would be worthless

    2. Jesus and the Apostles would be liars

    3. Our sins would remain

    4. There would be no hope beyond the grave

    5. We would labor in vain

  2. But He is risen and brings cosmic change… (vv. 20-28)

  3. So set sin aside and live for Jesus. (vv. 29-34)

Sign Gifts: Aiming for Edification

1 Corinthians 14:1-25

  1. We should seek spiritual gifts, especially those that edify the body with truth

  2. Tongues have communal value only when interpreted

  3. Seeking tongues is not a sign of spiritual maturity; seeking gifts that serve and build up others is

  4. Tongues are a sign, but prophecy changes hearts

Building on the Right Foundation

Matthew 7:24-26

Fact #1: You are building your life on some kind of foundation.

Fact #2: The storms of life will test the stability of your foundation.

Principles to Apply:

  1. Be careful what kind of foundation you are storm proofing your life with.

  2. Deeply secure your foundation through knowing and obeying Christ.

  3. Recognize that the greatest storm is yet to be faced and respond immediately.

Four Marks of a Godly Leader

Acts 20:17-37

  1. A Godly leader serves with humility and compassion. (vv. 19; 31; 36-37)
  2. A Godly leader exhibits transparent integrity. (vv. 18; 27)
  3. A Godly leader acts with courage. (vv. 19-24)
    1. He/she acts decisively, even in hardship.
    2. He/she has the courage to stay the course that God has set for him/her.
  4. A Godly leader is serious about declaring truth. (vv. 20; 27)

Honoring God's Design for Worship

1 Corinthians 11:2-16

  1. We should honor the Lord through our practical understanding of headship.
  2. We should be willing to limit our use of freedom so as to not dishonor, distract, or offend in worship.
  3. We should humbly focus on fulfilling our role in worship and family, instead of fighting it.

A Godly Path for the Christian Life

1 Corinthians 10:14-11:1

  1. Be devoted to Christ with your affections while still outward focused in your friendships.
  2. Be focused on what is truly good for others, not what is simply permissible.
  3. Be free of legalism, but guided by conscience.
  4. Be faithful in using your freedom for God's glory.
  5. Be an example of Christ for others to imitate.

Sidestepping the Landmines of Spiritual Pride

1 Corinthians 10:1-13

  1. Don't dabble with idolatry.
  2. Don't test the Lord.
  3. Don't let freedom lead to engaging immorality.
  4. Don't begin to grumble.
  5. Don't let your spiritual guard down.
  6. Don't believe that temptation has ultimate power over you.
